ABOUT US

We are researchers from across New York working together to grow our collective voice and expand public investment for life-saving research.

New York is home to tens of thousands of biomedical researchers and millions of New Yorkers who depend on the development of new medical treatments to help us and our families lead longer, healthier and more dignified lives.

In 2025, unionized researchers in the United Autoworkers, along with NY-CURES, the Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMSNY), and a growing movement of New Yorkers fighting to discover cures for debilitating diseases, began coming together to advocate for the inclusion of Empire Biomedical Research Institute in New York’s 2026-2027 Budget. This proposal would establish a new biomedical funding mechanism to support New York’s scientific mission while driving our economy forward.

Over the past year we’ve seen the power of organized researchers across the country to fight back against damaging cuts to science and higher education. While we’ve made progress, many of us continue to be deeply impacted by cuts to federal grants and the potential for more cuts in the future.

It is more important than ever that we expand and protect access to science funding by working with our elected representatives to develop historic and innovative new approaches to driving forward research progress at the state level, as researchers are already doing in states like Massachusetts and California.
